Since we can’t get a lot of information on social media, science has answered how often do the happiest couples have sex and the result isn’t expected.
“We have lots of expectations about how relationships are ‘supposed’ to look,” Dr. Logan Levkoff, who received her PhD in human sexuality, marriage and family life education from New York University, told NBC News. “Many times, this fairy-tale model doesn’t mimic our lives or our realities.”And that seems very true because it looks like happiest couples aren’t having sex as much as we probably think they are.
A study that appeared in the Archives of Sexual Behavior in 2017 discovered that the average adult has sex about 54 times… a year. That’s about once a week. Certainly not three times a week like we’re often told is the secret to being in a happy relationship. And it looks like that number has fallen since a similar study was done in 1990.Another study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science discovered that the gold standard for happiest couples are those that have sex once a week. That study surveyed over 30,000 Americans for over 40 years and that’s the golden number they found. ” Couples who had sex more than once a week didn’t report being any happier, and those who had sex less than once a week reported feeling less fulfilled,” NBC News reports.
So, there you have it — it’s not some
crazy number that you have to achieve. Also, it’s important to keep in
mind that this is just an average. Also, there are other ways to be
intimate vs just having sex.
